It was a Sunday, and I was a teenager. My parents and I went across town to visit my uncle and aunt. It was a great day. My uncle was one of my favorite people. Always smiling and happy. Funny. I felt warm and comfortable around him.
And my aunt was a great cook.
With a full belly, a smile on my face, and a day full of wonderful memories, I piled into the car while my parents said their goodbyes. I could see my uncle standing in his doorway.
That's when it hit me. It came out of nowhere. Without warning. A thought popped into my head before I even knew it was coming. This is the last time I'll see my uncle.
Two weeks later, we got the call. My uncle had died of a heart attack.
